The new Rumba Latina has arrived, I now including a vast collection of music, genres such as Latin Pop Dance, Vallenato, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, R&B, French Wave, Country, etc.
The Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) is an internationally renowned film event introducing its audience to prominent and emerging
cinema visionaries
Rumba Latina New York was founded in 2005 by Nelson Aguirre P.
My love for Music starts on, at seven years old. When I was ten I was already entertaining family’s gatherings. At fourteen I was doing parties of Rock en Español such as; High Energy, (Disco Music, 80’s in night clubs.
At the end of '92 I moved to New York. The Rock en Español movement was just launching. I was lucky enough to meet Jorge Garcia Diaz, pioneer of Rock en Español in New York, whom gave me the opportunity of working with him as a DJ for “Club Rock de los 90's”, “Mundo Rock Latino” and “Alterna Latino” later as a concert promoter of like Mana, Aterciopelados, Café Tacuva, Héroes del Silencio, Los Amigos Invisibles, Fito Páez, Fabulosos Cadillacs, La Ley, Jaguares, Fobia, Maldita Vecindad, King Chango, El León, Antigua, Enanitos Verdes, Julieta Venegas, Bacilos and many more. In venues such as S.O.B.’s, The Bank, Irving Plaza, The Town Hall, Copa Cabana, China Club, The Super Club Etc.
Elbow Room, Village Underground and later La Kueva, were all a fundamental part of diffusing the local movement. At the end of the '90's and early 2000's there were over 100 Rock en español local bands. “Festival Zona Rock” in 2002 was one of the biggest festivals aimed at the local bands. This festival was produced by me and Cesar Quiroz with the support of Jorge Garcia Diaz. The first awards given to local bands “Premios Rock en Español” in La Kueva, were directed and produced by me in January 2005. I have also work in “Orquidea stereo” 87.5 FM as a presenter and music programmer of Rock en Español, And founding of sociedadlatinany.com.
Throughout this time I have met people from all over the world, thanks to whom I've been allowed to know about their cultures and my love for music has grown. I now include in my vast collection of music, genres such as Latin Pop Dance, Vallenato, Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, R&B, French Wave, Country, Japanese hip-hop, Italian and Israeli Pop, Brazilian Roots, Gipsy, Celtic, Primitive Sounds, Folkloric and of course Rock en español, 80’s, High Energy and Disco.
